Can you remember the amazing look of your favourite piece of jewellery when it was first bought? How it glittered so?
No need to put up with dull uninteresting pieces. Here are some really easy and quick things to do which will help keep your jewellery looking great and to have a beautiful life. |
Carol and Chris say THE BEST thing to use is:
- Warm water in a bowl with sink drain plugged
- mild dish soap or ammonia based cleaners as it brightens metals
- soft toothbrush (be GENTLE with scrubbing) or dental cleaning unit (Waterpik)
- followed by a good rinse in hot tap water (as hot as you can stand) or ethyl alcohol
- dry piece on absorbent towel
- Check Jewellery piece for all stones being in place before throwing water away.
The Absolute Don't s of Jewellery cleaning:
- ammonia based jewellery cleaners on pearls as it will harm the pearl nacre coating
- tooth paste/powder (both contain harsh abrasives which will scratch gold)
- rubbing alcohol as it contains oil and will leave spots or dull the stones
- household bleach as it pits and dissolves gold alloy and attacks solder joints

"As silver oxidizes it will tarnish. This layer of oxidation can be removed without polishing and scrubbing by simply dipping your silver in this non-toxic electrochemical dip. Another big advantage to using a dip is that the liquid can reach places a polishing cloth cannot."
